PONTOONTALKers going on glacier

Couple of PONTOONTALKers will be arriving tomorrow (Friday) on BA flight from Gatwick and one more Brit last minute Saturday morning (who will miss the party tomorrow night).

In total of 16 people will be going on three highly modified SAR 4 x 4 jeeps Saturday morning to glacier MżrdalsŲkull where specially modified heavy duty MAN truck will take the group towards the top where snowmobiles will be waiting to be taken out for spin on way back some good and pure Icelandic drinks will be provided.... as we have an old saying.... after a drink noone should drive

On Sunday people have free day until traditional Icelandic Sunday dinner at my place "only 23 people" been invited so I will be cooking in both kitchens in the house most of the day

Pictures should start coming tomorrow night from the party

Bogi

Re: PONTOONTALKers going on glacier

For your information the area we are going to is earthquake active and for your information is map showing the area for the last 40 days and if you look at the red circles in left lower corner they show strength of quakes on Richter scale.

So interested to see if get some while we are playing

Bogi

p.s.
If you look last earthquake was yesterday and the one before on Oct. 1st

Re: PONTOONTALKers going on glacier

Unfortunately I had to skip the trip but they went in three highly modified 4x4 and as they arrived at seen the wind was blowing as we had sudden unexpted storm and wind warning this morning so the snowmobile trip was blown off instead they went on the jeeps to the top and as I was told tonight at the restaurant it was great and Andre surely will share that experiance on here ones he gets back home.

There shall be some pictures soon

Bogi

Re: PONTOONTALKers going on glacier

It was a super trip

Bogi many thanks again for setting it up and of course great thanks to the guys from the ICE SAR

Bogi in the true Icelandic tradition had also arranged B & B for us on the Glacier we of course had to decline such invitation . see photo

sadly it was too windy for a snowmobile trip so perhaps the next time. It was very cold up there but the dogs seemed to like it

If you ever get a chance to go to Iceland a visit to the Blue Lagoon Spa is a must. We had a great time

Looks stunning Andre, really like those arctic trucks, proper monster trucks. Might have to pimp mine up now.

Graham, that was a one off unless one travelled and booked an adventure trip.

we had supplied a Parker 900Baltic rib to the ICE SAR hence the trip and in Island the ICE SAR is responsible for both sea & mountain rescue

Re: PONTOONTALKers going on glacier

The Icelandic Search and Rescue website is looking a bit like this thread - big 4X4's and boats.

http://www.icesar.com/

I suppose with all this top gear and equipment it seems they must have a really great time, but of cause they only use it for real when someones in trouble.

Their incredible party trick which has been shown on the tele a couple of times when they reflate their tyres with lighter fuel and a box of matches seems just mad but it works.

And what with those V8 buggies being driven up larver cliffs and snow mobile racing, I'm suprised the local ramblers havn't imposed a 10mph limit to stop all these people having so much fun.
"Oh no" that only happens here!!!!!!

Re: PONTOONTALKers going on glacier

Nice photos Andre, glad you and rest of the gang had good time while I was repairing my car.... what an excuse for not going

Had not much time to have a look on the internet as still in the States driving south and now back north (Minneapolis from north, New Orleans to south, Columbus Ohio to the east and Kansas City to the west)

Robbie, sure we could do something similar if other Pontoontalk members want to have some fun up here
