Re: Parker Baltic with 2 x 275hp Mercury Verado's

Well today I took delivery of my Versadock. 5 pallet loads were delivered to the slipway at Port Solent. At first I was a tad concerned there was too much, but the installation guys assured me all was ok.

Anyway we started building the system at the slipway at Port Solent, when we were suddenly aware of 4 Gobby 8-10 year old kids climbing all over the floats, then they thought it funny to start walking over the line of floats that were assembled and just touching the water. We politely asked them to leave the stuff alone and get off the dock, to be told by one of the little girls to F*ck off you can't make us, which then followed loads of verbal abuse from them. Next thing they decided to push the floats into the water, and as quick as we could get them out the little F*ckers thru them in and with an off shore wind blowing they quickly floated away from the shore, which meant we got quite wet retrieving them.

SO, seeing as we could not control them and did not dare touch the little sods, had no choice other than to call the Police, who eventually turned up, took down the names and told them to go away. The Police Lady came down to us and advised us to get as much floating as possible as it was very lightly they would turn up again and there would be a lot more of them. So what started off as a 3 hour assembly ended up being an all day affair, we piled as many as we could onto what we had built, towed it over to Port Solent Marina and assembled it on the water, which increased the install time by 5-6 hrs as the whole idea was to build it on the slipway and float it off and straight onto my mooring.

I have to say it is brilliant system, boat goes up and onto it easily, my concerns were that the nose would rise really high then drop forward, but that is not the case, simply nudge the nose into place, apply a little throttle which pushes water up onto the dock, then a quick blast and up and out she pops, getting the rib off is easier, just a sharp blast backwards, then you end up engaging forward drive to brake the speed in which the rib glides off, as engaging reverse sends a load of water under the rib freeing the rib from the dock. Genius.

Looks very good, and obviously avoid applying that nasty anti fouling. There is a rib on the same type of system at Mercury Marina on the Hamble.

The Marina were a pain in the arse at first, point blank refused as their arguement was, if I was away from my mooring they could not use if for a visitor. So I just kept on and on at them and eventually they agreed. No extra charge as I am already paying for a 10m mooring, so had the Versadock made to take a 10m Rib sooooo watch this space.

Exactly, if I was to buy a trailer for my rib that would cost nearly £3k and as it happens I can't tow it unless I have low loader as it ways 3400 kg without fuel. So they only way to clean it is to pay for lifts at £125 per month, antifoul I believe devalues a Rib as you don't know what's beneath it. So all in all I feel the investment is a good one. Plus Sarah has decided when the Rib is out it will make a good sun pad !!!! just hope she moves damn quick when I come to put the rib back on

Sorry to hear about the idiot kids - should have given them 30 mins boating in the rough stuff - that would have stopped them from being so "nauti"!

Thank you, just a shame cos they got us so angry, also knowing there was nothing we could do about it except try and recover each float as they threw them in, and what's worse they knew we could not touch them so carried on. If I'd have had the rib out there I would have put the little sods on it, driven them out to the forts and left them!!! felt daft involving the Police, but there was nothig else we could have done. THEY should have been at school!!!

Unfortunately is an all too common experience these days.
They talk about Tony Blair's legacy !
You found it today!
Had something similar last Cowes Classic race when a bunch of kids slashed my mates trailer tyres at the slip by Ocean Village, Police knew who it was but.....

Richard, looks good. Will have to pay you a visit at Port Solent and see how Seahawk IV can cope with your Versadock

Re: Parker Baltic with 2 x 275hp Mercury Verado's

Well, as some will know I have had my Parker up for sale as I have a requirement for more seats, the layout I had now could not be modified so I chose to put her up for sale. At Ribex she was sold and will be in Guernsey with the new owner.

My new rib will be again a Parker 900 Baltic but Safari style similar to the attached image. I will start a new thread once I have confirmed spec with a no doubt delighted Andre

Richard

Congrats on your sale. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the new purchase during the build stage.

Might have to be one of your first customers!!
