Have Just Bought A Boat For Winter Project! Help!!

Hi, I Have Just Bought A Boat That Needs Alot Of Tlc. I Am A Newcomer To This Hobby And I Am In Need Of Some Advise. I Do Not Have Any Boating Experience And Do Not Yet Understand Technical Boating Words(so You Will Have Keep It Simple).
I Have Just Purchased A 15 Foot Cabin Type Boat For Use On My Local River, The River Tees. The Boat Had A Full Spray Job About 3 Yaers Ago And Has Been On A Trailer On A Drive Since. It Is Now On The Same Traler On My Drive. Who Ever Sprayed It 3 Years Ago Did A Terrible Job, The Paint Has Started To Flake Off And You Can See Where They Have Masked Up To The Rubber That Goes Around The Boat Just Above The Water Line.
I Have Already Removed The Rubber And The Steering Controls And Am Planning To Remove Everything Else That Is On It. I Want Strip Everything Off It So That I Am Left With A Fibreglass Shell. I Then Plan To Fill All Of The Holes, Sand The Whole Thing Down And Paint It. When I Say Fill The Holes I Mean Small Screw Holes In And Around The Cabin Area, Apart From Small Screw Holes The Rest Of The Boat Seems To Be Sound.
I Plan To Use This In The River And Keep It Moored Up. I Might Possibly Want To Go In The Sea With It At A Later Date, Because Of This I Want To Make Sure I Use The Correct Paints And Filler.
1)what Filler Should I Use?
2)can Anyone Suggest A Good Paint To Use That Will Get A Good Finish?
3)what Is The Best Way To Apply The Paint Ie; Brush, roller, spray Gun?
4)can Anyone Suggest A Website Or A Shop Near To Middlesbrough That Sells The A Suitable Paint And Other Boat Parts And Fittings As I Am Going To Replace Nearly Everthing On The Boat.
5)somebody Has Recomended A Paint By A Company Called International, The Name Of The Paint Is Called Perfection.has Anyone Got Any Opinions On This Company/paint.
Your Comments And Advice Will Be Greatly Appreciated

Thanks

Griff

Re: Have Just Bought A Boat For Winter Project! Help!!

Hi,
Perhaps I may be of some help. There is (or was?) a chandlers (they supply boat bits) at Hartlepool near the marina - they should have some paints suitable. There is also a boat sales etc on, I think, longlands Road near the roundabout - it is on the bridge over the railway. Although I live in the south my home is Normanby and I get up every month and if you give me a ring on 01903 242420 and wish me to do so I will come and look at your boat and give you what advice I can. I am currently renovating a 33ft boat but also have a RIB. I am next up on 2nd-5th Sept. if you are interested.
Les

Re: Have Just Bought A Boat For Winter Project! Help!!

Thank You Les For Your Reply, It Would Be Great If We Could Meet Up. I Have Tried To Phone You Earlier On This Evening, I Will Try Again Tomorrow. The Boat Is Nothing Special So Dont Be Too Disapointed If You Do Come And See It, At The Moment Its Just A Fibreglass Shell With Lots Of Holes In And About 2 Inch Of Water. I Am Off Work This Week And Plan To Get It Under Cover And Hopefully Sanded Down And The Holes Filled.
Speak To You Soon,
Thanks, Griff
