Freedom of information

Home Office Approved Safety Cameras.

In Parliament there was a session whereby the government agreed that they should be made a brighter colour and stood out more so that there high visibility enabled people to
see them and know that this was an area of danger at this point on a highway.

That being the case; as the profile of these devices has been raised I would have thought that the exact location of all of these safety cameras could be published with benefit to safety and without detrimrnt to security.

Anyone know of that database?

Re: Freedom of information

Steve,

There is a web site where you download the database for a Sat Nav. It is updated on a monthly basis and needs to be reloaded every month if you want to keep bang up to date.

The cost of the data base is about £ 2.00 everytime you use it but if you report a new camera position, and it is accepted, you get a free download.

The only drawback is that it is just a database. It give's the POSSIBLE camera positions for mobile units as well so it will warn you of something that may not be there but I have it loaded on my Tom Tom and it has saved my little butt on more than one occasion.

The address is - www.pocketgpsworld.com

Re: Freedom of information

Cheers Nick!

I have emailed the home office under the freedom of information act on the matter of providing the location of every camera.

Since parliament suggested raising their profile and making the even more identifiable, it can hardly be a matter of national security to keep their addresses out of the public domain.

It will be wonderfull for my kids to be able to spot these on our days out, and as they are safety cameras, we will all be so much safer for them being spotted.

I'll let you know thier response.....

Re: Freedom of information

It makes me laugh, but on the A24 going south there is only one Gatzo by the garden centre. It is a very dangerous junction so therefore the authorities have judged a camera is neccesary.
Look at all the drivers as they go through this dangerous junction. Each one is looking in their rear view mirror to see if the camera goes off, and no one is looking ahead at the dangerous junction!!

Re: Freedom of information

Fined for speeding, fined for using your mobile phone in the car, fined for smoking in the wrong place, fined for going over 10kts on lakes.

Its official.....The nutters have taken over the country, and the government are cashing in.

Re: Freedom of information

I love British humour calling one of the most money maker for the government SAFETY CAMERA......... to me this is most unfair way of ripping off their public.... have been charged few times administration charge by the car rentals for sending in my name as beeing driver of the said vehicle but not been charged yet

We supply the Icelandic State Police with all radars, eyewitness systems as well as cameras, but they are givin the right name speed record cameras, and you will be fined ... so I qualify to be one of the worst boys.... against Icelandic high speed drivers.....

Talking Re: Freedom of information

They caught the crime, but failed to detect the criminal "beyond all reasonable doubt".

Samething has hapened to me I have been framed six times. Once on my motorbike.

I think there was a test case recently whereby under European Human rights law a bloke tried to get off a speeding fine arriving in the post by refusing to answer the questions but aggreeing to sign the form and turn up at court.

I didnt get to hear the outcome.

Re: Freedom of information

And to prove a point...

Dr. Stephen Ladyman is definately bringing his 'drinking in charge of a boat' to Parliament.

Any boat over 7mtrs or capable of speeds in excess of 7kts I believe is what his paper suggests, will be ruled as the same drink drive rules as a car.

The RYA have repeatadly told him that a problem with drink and navigating a boat does not exist, but he is determined to carry on with this expensive nonsense.

So now that he will not pack it in, the RYA say they must be fully involved to keep it from becomming more stupid.

The perception of a great evil that does not exist. Created by a goverment to control its people. That has a familiar ring to it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

email him and tell him what you think.........................................I have.
