UK Boating edition 2 trailer online . . .

The trail for edition 2 of UK Boating (premieres 15th August) is now online:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ywr77RxwhPc

Unlike conventional TV programme trailers, it grows when we add new content to the show - there'll be more of it after we complete a major inland waterway shoot early this coming week.

Re: UK Boating edition 2 trailer online . . .

I eventually got to see it this evening. I like the variety of boating subjects and infact I have done all the boating shown in this programme from holidaying on the Broads, sailing, canals and offshore boating. If you had included white water canoeing it would have been the full package.
Hopefully your programme will hang around longer than the other boating schedules on Sky.
I understand the guy from the Campion dealership really can sell coals to Newcastle, and fridges to Eskimos---what a salesman!!!

If you're in Essex today (Tuesday 7th Aug), come and have a chat around the Chelmer and Blackwater navigation - Sandford this morning, Paper Mill immediately after lunch, and Heybridge this afternoon!

PS, Robbie - can't find any good rapids in Suffolk or Essex . . . . are there any (artificial would be fun)?

I'm a bit too old to be canoeing now, but my boys enjoy paddling. The governing body nowadays is the British Canoe Union or BCU. They have a website with contact details to find out about different activity centres.

Re: UK Boating edition 2 trailer online . . .

The Nene is a man made white water course that is rather tame. There are three pumps at the top of the course that can be turned on as 1, 2 and all 3.

You will need to be BCU 3 Star qualified and they will ask to see proof of this.

The UK White Water centre, Holme Pierrepont, at Notingham is better but beware if you do use it you will probably be ill and I speak from experiance. The reason is that it is below the power station and the average water temp is about 25oc and the bugs love this. It is recomended that you drink a litre of coke before you go on as the phospohoric acid in the coke kills everything in your stomach.

The two best places to go by far are -

1 Hurley Weir on the Thames or
2 The Trewyn in Bala, North Wales

They will both knock you senseless and are good fun for kayaking.

If you follow this link it will give you more info -

Re: UK Boating edition 2 trailer online . . .

Good find Nick. Sheperton wier is just like being under a waterfall and not to exciting. The picture of Chertsey wier made me laugh as I always seemed to be unside down or just my head out of the water when we went there. Hurley wier was where some guy died about thirty years ago, and I seem to remember it was closed to canoeing for a while.
But for me the best will always be Monington falls on the river Wye. We rode the falls and it was so mad that we then spent the rest of the day going over it in the boats or jumping off the top into the gorge. No mobiles in those days and our support team was having kittens when we turned up hours late at our rendevous. This of cause was in propper fibre glss canoes not those new plastic stunt jobbies. I wouldn't want to clock up 20 miles a day in one of those.

Re: UK Boating edition 2 trailer online . . .

Robbie, there is nothing wrong with those " Plastic Stunt Jobbies !!!! "

I have a Pyrahna 230 which is about 6 feet long and it is great fun.

I did Hurley a couple of years ago when it was on 4 gates and there was about 400 m3/sec of water trundling through. The paddle got ripped out of my hands as I went over, for the 50th time !!!!, and i had no option but to come out of the boat. When i came out the force was so great that I got pulled under the water and was down for about 15 to 20 sec's ....................... my mate absoulutly crapped himself !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am still a memeber of Arun Canoe Club but it has been at good 6 months since i last paddled.
