Re: just bought my first boat

patched up that small hole this afternoon, the picture only really shows the final layer but theres 3 layers there and a couple on the outside to which will need finishing off with the P40 you mentioned, was well chuffed got a small glass fiber kit and ally mesh sheet and a tin of P40 for 12

then dismantled the old seats and started head scratching how to mount mine, welder time!!

in the meantime im cracking on with all the little jobs and soon as im back ill get on with welding up the trailer, going to pull the whole thing apart fit new U bolts and give it a lick of paint

made up some new boards for mounting the throttle and trimmed them in the same material as the seats

Impressed with the pace...

But take your time choosing an engine.

There will be loads and loads to listen to.

Re: just bought my first boat

the chap over the road from where the boat is has a yamaha 40hp hasnt said how much he wants for it yet so ill nip round to have a look one evning, would be good to get something local i can see running

also theres a small boatyard on the canal 5 miles away, the chap there was very helpfull when i popped in and sounds like they have a fair few used motors around, but i didnt know the differance between long and short shaft when i went round

measured the transform and looks like i need a long shaft motor so glad i discovered that before buying a short one

Re: just bought my first boat

Yams are often more expensive on parts.

Gaskets etc.

Re: just bought my first boat

I wouldn't have a preference.

Everybody likes ringing everything they can out of a boat at any and every given opportunity. Boats don't have to slow down for roundabouts or stop for traffic lights so theres no limit to how long you can give it the max. So all engines get hammered.

Its rare to find one that has had a sheltered life for ten years and that you are now going to get the best out of it.

Low hours, proven service history and any warranty offered are worth more than the badge.

Cables you know they don't both work the same way right?

Can you disconnect the cables, drop them out and see if they are free?

Re: just bought my first boat

well heres the massively exiting update

girlfriends dad was clearing out and kindly gave me a set of mini axel stands as mine are still under the anglia which gave me chance to get the wheels off to remove the scrap tyres (ive kept them for fenders) and clean up the rims ready for some fresh tyres

also removed the 2 whinches, for the time being im just going to get a new boat whinch cant see the other one ever getting used

mudguards are also off ill have to fab up some new brackets for them and started taking the towing hitch off as i want to replace it with a lockable one
