Back on the water again and it feels GREAT :-)

Well finally bought a boat again, not a rib this time as for the budget we found you got far more value for money for our budget with a hard boat.

We did not buy the Regal in the end as it turned out to be a bucket of ****e. But we did find this Sea Ray 180, running a Mercruiser 4.3 V6, full documented service history, every bit of paperwork and even the origninal SeaRay customer care chrome credit cards in the sleeves, so quite a nice find. She has done 85hrs from new, stored in a garage, one owner from new, 1990, and under 6k. including the trailer. She currently has a hi-five prop but looking to change that perhaps for a 3 blade stainless 21pitch. (Just gotta find one first)

Looks well looked after as you say.

Where are you planning on boating from?

Glad you seen the light and come over from the dark side

Re: Back on the water again and it feels GREAT :-)

Well it did until the engine decided to break down right as we went across Chichester Bar!! started coughing then popping before cutting out, then would not start at all. So put the anchor out and left it for 10/15mins and still it would not start.

In the meantime the three kids we had on board were starting to get a little panicy despite Debs and I reasuring them everything would be fine and gave them landmarks so they could see we were not drifting out to sea and never to be found again.

So all I can say is thank f*** I decided for some unknown reason to get out of bed this morning at 1.30am and join SeaStart on line!!! When I called them this morning I hald expected them to say they'd charge for the call out but they didn't so thats the best 139 I have ever spent!!

Re: Back on the water again and it feels GREAT :-)

Anyway they were gonna take 45 mins from Chichester Harbour and as I was the kids were starting to get a little edgy now I radioed the Harbour Master who duly appeared 20 mins later complete with flashing lights and towed us into the safety of East Head where the SeaStart guy had just arrived. He could not start the engine at all and towed us back to Chichester Marina.

Debs then took the kids down to Witterings beach and I recovered the boat. A phone call later and I have now dropped the boat of to Mr Adrian Cronk, he seems to think at first glance its the coil as had arked across. He is also gonna look over the rest of the boat for us!!

Re: Back on the water again and it feels GREAT :-)

Now all I have to do is convince a 7year old girl that the boat will be ok next time out as at the moment she does not want to go out on the boat again :-(

So before I think I will take the boat out alone for a good run first and maybe meet them off East Head.

Anyway now home and all safe - Thank you SeaStart and Chichester Harbour Master!!

Re: Back on the water again and it feels GREAT :-)

I once had a coil failure on the Fletcher was about 3 miles out and had to call the coastguard asking for the lifeboat to tow me back in. really frustrating. But Adrian had it sorted in no time.
The Hunton has suffered from a few minor electrical faults which have turned out just been loose connections in the end. But the problem with fly by wire is the computer says NO if all is not 100%. At least i have 2 engines so can usually get home on 1
