Winter Project - Delta 5.5 Rib

Have just bought a Delta 5.5 rib. Tubes are fine, hull is fine, deck is solid enough but could do with a tidy, consul is coming out as has more holes than a Tea-bag!!!

Have an engine lined up for feb 2011 from Adrian, a Suzuki 140 - 2 stroke so that should make it shift. The Delta is rated to 150hp

Collecting it on Monday from zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Truro!!

Have also hired a car trailer as don't want to test the barings on the trailer just yet!!

I really look forwards to seeing this project Richard. Be sure to post pictures 'warts an all', before and after. A 140 two stroke on the back of a 5.5 mtr RIB should be pretty mental!

Re: Winter Project - Delta 5.5 Rib

Hi, yes definitely will, as soon as the boat gets here on Thursday I will post some pics. Found a company to bring it back from Truro to Sidlesham for 140, BARGAIN saved me the 600 mile drive and hire of a car trailer as the bearings aren't the best on the current trailer. Looking forward to getting stick in. Have sourced a new consul and two extra jockeys. Need to find an A-Frame. Have sourced some fantastic anti-slip flooring, it's the similar to the stuff they use in kids playgrounds, very hard wearing, the boat has to be totally level when putting it in as it's self levelling stuff and you kinda pour it in. Will find a link and post it here shortly.

Suzuki 140 on the back should make it hum quite nicely, there is a chap in Ireland I have been chatting with has a 150 opti on his and trim tabs and he reckons he is hitting 56 knots!!! In a 5.5 that's insane!! But we shall see. Speaking with Delta and they reckon I should put the consul as far forward as poss and the 140 will be just the job.

Considering the boat is an Old boat, DELTA have been very helpful.

Re: Winter Project - Delta 5.5 Rib

I'm now waiting for the backlash or vandalism to my boat........sorry

The 140 suzuki are fantastic engines and very economical, I use to run one on a Marshan 16 on the flat it would out run all the rings and phantoms around. The really sad thing is about 2 months ago I put 3 props on ebay all for that engine inc some through hub cleavers, they were sitting in the garage gathering dust and I would of prefferd to give them to you than get a few quid from some tw*t,
Will have a look see if I can find any other bits but I dont hold much hope.
Good luck and post some pic's (p.s do you need to borrow a rake to level the floor????)

Re: Winter Project - Delta 5.5 Rib

Well having got the excuse for a rib back I now wonder if I have bitten off more than I can chew!!

Hull is generally fine, got some small gell chips to repair and grazes which are easily do able.

BUT

The deck is gonna need replacing and the fact he said the tubes hold air which they do for about 5/10 mins before deflating so much the boat becomes a hard boat and no longer a rib LOL

SO I'm gonna need to cut the deck out and replace the tubes as they have more patches on than a patch work quilt!

Re: Winter Project - Delta 5.5 Rib

I have a price for new tubes from Ribcraft at a favour price as work with them quite often with pontoons etc and have sourced a fantastic consul and Jockey from them which has a slight soft spot in the gel coat so factory reject but if they had not pointed it out to me I would have never seen it so that great too as has been upholstered and screen etc too.

I have to say I am borderline bailing on it and re-ebaying!

The only thing that phases me is the re-decking so any advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Winter Project - Delta 5.5 Rib

Sounds like you should have stuck with a hard boat they do not have tubes that go down!!

Good luck with the project though
