Re: Monday 16th
That boat will be as good as new when you've completed all your various projects, may be even better than new.
Take some pictures so we can monitor progress ![]() |

My boat will be 20 years old next year. So do I sell it for what I can get for it and put the money towards a newer boat. Or Keep it a few more years until I can aford to buy a newer much better boat. ![]() My biggest problem is that I work in telecoms wich happens to be the worst paid data build industry in the World. ![]() Therefore the plan now is to rip out the old 1980's internal linings and replace with new grey ribbed carpet, then replace some of the acrilic windows and to fit Luminition electronic ignition, as most of the problems and costs laterly have been with the ignition system. I've also got some fibre glass issues going on as well, but plancraft will sell me the epoxy and filler to deal with these. I have also found doing this kind of work is actually better in the winter months, not because of the weather as it would be best to lay carpet and lay glass in warmer months. But when the weathers great I get frustrated working on the boat and usually pack up very early and take the boat out for the rest of the day and then little jobs take days to complete. I'm taking the camera by the way, so hope to post progress.

Re: Monday 16th
Painting a bit of wood?
There is half a ton of old glue to scrape off before I can relay any covering, I'm recovering the vinyl head lining at home. I then have to refit the deck fixings and front windows as they have started to leak water into the cabin. Plus the boat is 45 miles from where I live, and my employer expects me to turn up and spend days doing other stuff. Its all on the list and I'm slowly getting round to it all. I'm really enjoying do it all as it makes the boating experience last longer into the year. The last couple of times I've been down the seas been chopping up so much I wouldn't have gone out anyway.

Re: Monday 16th
Went down again today and finished off the other side. I've now got to finish off the bit around the windows, and find a way of cutting out the windows bit without leaving knife cuts all over the perspex.
I also now have the vinyl to reupholster the roof lining. So that can be fitted back in shortly. Only need to reseal the cabin windows and decide when I'm going to sort out the crazed glass in the windscreen.

I have thought of that approach, but knowing me I will try and 'wing it' with the light from the window giving me the edge (hopefully).

Re: Monday 16th
Window bits now stuck on. I've cut roughly round the windows with scissors.
The idea now is to apply some black silicon to bond the carpet edge around the window after some precision cutting with small scissors. I've now got all the vinyl and thin foam to recover the celing head lining boards which get screwed to the roof. It was warm and dead calm out there today. The guy whos boat is in front of mine just summed it up by saying 'best days boating all year'. Just what I wanted to hear with my boat full of tools and carpet off cuts and general gear, so much so that I can't reach the stearing wheel or start her up.

Re: Monday 16th
Robbie, is all this enthusiasm a reflection of the extra fun you have had round in the solent.
Is it next seasons cruising plan and itinery that have been driving you cabin refit relentlessly onwards.
